BE THE FIRST 100 To Commit to 1 Healthy, Active Behavior
We are campaigning to encourage school clubs, school classrooms, social clubs, athletic teams, organizations, churches, work places and families
to adopt 1 healthy active behavior this school year.
Become one of Miller’s top 100!
By adopting one healthy active behavior and multiplying that by 100…we can make our school, our community and our home a place that encourages wellness and fitness for all ages.
HOW?
Step 1: LOOK AROUND YOU
Look at where your school/club/classroom/work environment can make a healthy active addition/change
Step 2: COMMIT TO THE CHANGE
Step 3: SUBMIT your healthy active behavior change (and a picture of your group) to our School Health Council by emailing Chris Keeter at schoolhealthcouncil@yahoo.com
Our council has lots of ideas please check out our facebook page or email us at the above address to let us help you….
Once we have 100 commitments we will have a celebration!

The Miller Cross Country team, Coach (Tom McGough) and all the parents challenged the team to "eat to compete" by providing healthy lunches along with plenty of water for the team to eat/drink before and after each meet. This cut down on stops at convenience stores and also allowed the team to return home earlier (and healthier) after each meet.

Ms. Smith's students from Miller High School contribute to wellness in their school day. Everyday at 11:30 they walk on the track, around the gym or school, or shoot hoops!
After being a part of the walk and can of food donation, Hand County Insurance and American Bank & Trust started a challenge among some of the employees, to drink 100 gallons of water in 10 days. Although vacation plans and medical leave did not allow the complete group of employees to participate, 10 of the employees opted to go the 10 days of water, water everywhere! Our thought was drinking water does your body good and we wanted to make the healthy change from the soda and coffee drinking. The hardest obstacle for many of us was committing to the weekend water drinking, but it went well and we finished well over our final goal. Keeping a glass of water or a water bottle by your desk during the day may seem small, but it's all about healthy habits and changes we can consciously make.

Kids and teachers are always looking for ways to enjoy health and fitness at Miller Elementary. The mileage club has existed for the last 6 years at Miller Elementary. This October they took things a step further and invited moms to walk with them. "Morning with Moms" was held October 7th with 67 moms , one dad and more than 150 students participating in the walking that morning. The mileage club usually runs from 8:00am- 8:20 am every morning at the elementary gym. It has been a great way to show kids (and teachers too) that walking first thing in the morning is a great way to start off the day. Different events like this will be planned thru out the year to encourage walking to become a "family affair".
Mrs. Ketelhut's and Mrs. Gesinger's fourth grade classes join the Challenge 100 Campaign by exercising every morning to fitness songs.

The Girl Scouts join the Wellness 100 Challenge in a variety of ways. At their monthly, All-City meetings a tasting table is available. The first month red foods were on the menu: cherry tomatoes, pomegranates, red pears, red peppers, raspberries, and beets. The next month orange foods were available: cantelope, persimmons, clementines, carrots, orange peppers and papayas. This activity is just for fun, to encourage the girls to try something new, that they may like. Next month will see the addition of an opening exercise activity to encourage everyone to get moving.
In addition, the girls are reminded that everyone should have a goal of 5 servings of fruit or vegetables a day. All members received a tally sheet to keep track and the first one to 100 servings will get a prize!
